Making Queensland a home for quantum

Quantum and advanced technologies are creating new opportunities to solve complex challenges, drive productivity and grow future industries. Building on world-class research capability, Queensland is turning quantum discoveries into real-world applications across sectors including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, renewable energy, and agtech.

Aligned with the Queensland Science and Innovation Strategy, our focus is on accelerating ideas, unlocking investment and activating partnerships that support research translation, commercialisation and industry growth. These efforts are building sovereign capability, attracting investment and creating new opportunities for Queensland industries, communities and future jobs.

Strengthening Queenslands innovation ecosystem

Queensland is building on its strengths in quantum and advanced technologies to help move ideas from discovery to delivery. By connecting researchers, industry, government and investors, Queensland is strengthening the partnerships, capabilities and pathways needed to translate innovation into real-world outcomes.

Supported by complementary technologies such as photonics, MEMS, superconductors and compound semiconductors, Queensland's innovation ecosystem provides access to the infrastructure, expertise and talent needed to accelerate commercialisation, attract investment and grow future industries.

Examples of how the Queensland Government is supporting innovation in advanced technologies include:

  • the Commercialisation Infrastructure Program for co-investment alongside the Australian Government, universities and industry in testing and fabrication infrastructure to support prototyping and small batch production of quantum and advanced technology devices
  • the Talent Building Program to attract and retain talented prospective scientist-founders, with an emphasis on supporting women and other under-represented groups
  • the Quantum Decarbonisation Mission to accelerate the development and application of quantum technologies that can make a significant contribution for energy transition
  • the Quantum 2032 Challenge to showcase Queensland quantum technologies during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Together, these strengths help create new opportunities for collaboration, industry growth and high-value jobs, positioning Queensland as a leading destination for quantum innovation and advanced technology development.

Quantum Innovation Queensland

Quantum Innovation Queensland (QIQ) was established in 2023 and chaired by the Queensland Chief Scientist as a collaborative vehicle to support the development of Queensland's quantum ecosystem. QIQ included representation from the research sector, venture capital, quantum companies, and the Queensland Government to provide advice and input that informed the development, implementation and governance of key quantum programs and initiatives. Having completed its term, QIQ played an important role in bringing together key stakeholders and helping build the foundations for Queensland's continued quantum innovation capabilities.
