A large global exporter of raw and refined commodities, Queensland is recognised internationally for its research in mining, and for providing technological solutions to the global mining industry using robotics, satellite imaging, and three-dimensional (3D) visualisation.
Queensland is a leading global exporter of raw and refined commodities and is internationally recognised for its expertise in mining and resources research. The state is developing innovative technologies for the global resources sector, including robotics, remote sensing, satellite imaging and advanced data analytics.
Queensland's universities, research organisations and industry partners are working together to develop and commercialise new technologies that address challenges across mining, minerals processing, environmental management and resource recovery.
The Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development, is supporting research, innovation and industry collaboration to strengthen the resources sector. Current priorities include growing Queensland's critical minerals industry, supporting downstream processing and manufacturing, attracting investment, and translating research into practical commercial outcomes that benefit regional communities and the broader economy.
Mining and resources research centres
Queensland has nine universities including three of Australia’s largest. Most of these universities undertake research in the mining and resources sector. Details of 200 plus research centres in Queensland are available by searching the Queensland science capability directory.
Queensland has more than 60 institutes, facilities, centres and other research organisations involved in the mining and resources sector.
