Quantum and Advanced Technologies Talent Building Program
Applications are now closed.
A total of $3.8 million in funding has been awarded to six Queensland universities to support at least 90 students, aimed at building the talent pipeline for Queensland’s quantum and advanced technologies ecosystem.
Recipient universities include:
- Queensland University of Technology
- James Cook University
- Griffith University
- The University of Queensland
- University of Southern Queensland
- University of Sunshine Coast.
Each participating university will independently share details about the available scholarships. Eligible students are encouraged to apply directly to the university where they wish to study.
The Quantum and Advanced Technologies Talent Building Program aims to build the talent pipeline for the quantum and advanced technologies ecosystem in Queensland. The objectives of the program are to:
- contribute to and strengthen participation of students in quantum and advanced technologies, particularly those who identify as women, are non-binary, are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, or are from regional areas
- train a new generation of PhD students into excellent quantum researchers capable of being pioneers in this emerging discipline
- build technology capability and skills across a range of fields
- improve translation and commercialisation skills
- foster collaboration across academia and industry.
Available Awards
The Talent Building Program was a closed grant program for Queensland-based universities to bid on the number of awards in each category to be administered to students. The Program aims to have 50% of all scholarship holders belonging to groups currently underrepresented in quantum and advanced technologies sectors, including those who identify as women, are non-binary, are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, or are from regional areas.
The types of awards available to students include:
- Quantum and Advanced Technologies Global Talent Attraction PhD stipend for international students that identify as women or non-binary
- Quantum and Advanced Technologies Top-up for students with a PhD stipend
- Quantum and Advanced Technologies Postgraduate Pipeline Scholarship for students undertaking research as part of Honours or Masters degree
- Cross-disciplinary PhD Collaboration Scholarship supports PhD students studying in a non-quantum field whose project could benefit from collaboration with research or industry partners in quantum or advanced technologies
- Carer’s Assistance Package to support students with caring responsibilities who are receiving another award from the Talent Building Program to attend conferences or to visit a relevant industry/research venue.
