Lead researchers
Jake Carroll is the Director of UQ's Research Computing Centre. Jake has been responsible for the architecture and design of UQ's most advanced storage and supercomputing infrastructure initiatives, as well as advisory to several national initiatives involving federated storage and cloud computing design.
He has held various board appointments for state government advisory initiatives in Artificial Intelligence infrastructure.
He is a current member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
Jake is an executive of the Australasian eResearch Organisation (AeRO).
Achievements of the centre
- The creation, alongside its technology vendors, of one of the most powerful, cutting-edge supercomputers in Australia's university sector. HPC Bunya includes some of the most powerful GPUs worldwide, mixed with the latest CPUs, in a solution designed around efficiency and sustainability. Bunya leverages UQ's evergreen technology investment strategy, providing researchers with cutting-edge infrastructure every year, whilst mitigating technology obsolescence and inefficiency.
