The Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre undertakes independent research to address the complexities and challenges of the energy transition in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. The Centre’s research and engagement aims to support the development of knowledge, policies and practices that will ensure an equitable energy transition and the responsible development of energy resource projects.

The Centre delivers and facilitates interdisciplinary research through four themes that reflect the diversity of issues associated with the energy transition: Communities & Coexistence, Environment, Decarbonisation, and Energy Security. The expertise in these themes is complemented by a network of experts from across UQ and leading international universities, as well as practical insights gained from over a decade of work in Queensland's energy resources sector.

Lead researchers

  • Professor Andrew Garnett—Plug made of common clay is proving an effective and permanent seal of bores, providing an alternative to cement-based plugs now used
  • Professor Suzanne Hurter—Built a modelling tool (Petrel-plug in) to make non-linear geostatistics (spatial copulas) available to end-users.
