The WH Bryan Mining Geology Research Centre (BRC) supports sustainable and responsible mineral production by maximising the value of geoscientific data across the value chain.
Our researchers focus on creating positive industry impact through applied research and training in the areas of geoscience and mining.
The BRC identifies and translates the increasingly voluminous and complex set of geoscientific data associated with exploration, mining, processing and waste into practical knowledge and insight that improve the performance and sustainability of the mining industry.
BRC operates through research groups and programs. These research programs include: Deep Mining Geoscience; Mine Waste Transformation through Characterisation; Total Deposit Knowledge; and our integrated and collaborative science of Geometallurgy.

- Prof Nick Cook – experienced multi-disciplinary geologist with expertise in mineral exploration and collaborative project operations
- Prof Andre van As – leading expert in geoscience issues relating to mass underground mining (caving) operations and projects
- Ass Prof Steven Micklethwaite – focuses on innovative approaches to exploration, mineral systems science and mining. Lead for SMI's Resourcing Decarbonisation Program

- Partner in the Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Critical Resources for the Future
- Leading mine waste characterisation research group in Australia
- Compiled the Deposit Atlases for Queensland's North West Mineral Province and Northwest Mineral Province and the Queensland New Economy Minerals Compilation
- Partner in the creation of the Atlas of Australian Mine Waste
- Partner in the European Union's Horizon Europe program, the m4mining project to make hyperspectral remote sensing, from drones and satellites, more effective and accessible
