Strategic focus
The Queensland Water Modelling Network (QWMN) focused its efforts across three interconnected areas: research, development and innovation; capability building; and governance.
Together, these activities helped strengthen Queensland's water modelling capability, support collaboration across the sector, and improve the application of water modelling to inform planning, policy and natural resource management.
Research, development and innovation
The QWMN supported research, development and innovation activities that addressed priority water modelling challenges identified through consultation with government, industry, researchers and practitioners.
This work was guided by the Queensland Water Modelling Network Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Strategies, which identified priority modelling needs, regions of focus and opportunities for strategic investment.

Capability building
Recognising that effective water modelling relies on both technical expertise and collaboration, the QWMN invested in initiatives designed to strengthen capability across Queensland's water modelling sector.
This included the External Engagement Program (EEP) and the Capability, Collaboration and Capacity Program (3CP), which supported professional development, knowledge sharing and collaboration between researchers, practitioners and end users.

Governance
The QWMN operated through a collaborative governance framework that connected government, research and industry stakeholders.
Governance arrangements included an Advisory Board, Capability and Capacity Reference Group and Secretariat, supported by subject matter experts who contributed specialist advice to research, capability and investment activities.
This structure helped ensure that Network activities remained aligned with sector priorities and supported the effective translation of water modelling knowledge into practical outcomes.
