The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development operates two repositories housing a wide range of geological samples, and advanced analytical technologies, to assist improved understanding and delineation of the State's mineral and energy resources. Their purpose is to provide information and insight to aid the ongoing success and economic contribution that the extractive resources sector provides Queensland.

Achievements of the centre
The analytical capabilities provided by the data centres at Zillmere and Mt Isa have provided fundamental information and insight to assist in exploration, discovery and development of mineral deposits. In particular, assembly of a variety of datasets to characterise deposit features and metallurgical properties serves to improve ability of industry proponents to assess appropriate development pathways and required technologies for mineral processing.
