The Institute aims to be an internationally recognised leader in research across education, literacy, learning, public policy and related areas.

Home to more than 250 researchers and research students, GIER has one of the largest concentrations of university‑based education researchers in the country.

Its research spans education systems, curriculum and pedagogy, and specialist areas including Indigenous contexts, leadership, literacy and numeracy, language and early childhood.

GIER's research groups include: AI Education Research Lab; Autism Centre of Excellence; Educational justice, excellence and equity; Educational leadership futures; Griffith University Literacy in Context; and Learning and development across the lifespan.
